Busing Unassigned Seat
Starting August 2023, families can submit a request for an unassigned bus seat for the 2023-24 school year. This process is for families who live outside the distance for eligible busing based on the NS School Transportation Policy.
Families who are already eligible for busing do not need to submit an unassigned seating request. To find out if your child is eligible for student transportation, check on our BusPlanner site.
How can I apply?
Please complete and submit the unassigned seat request form below.
Please Note:
You must submit a separate request per child and include your child's student ID number on the form when possible (10-digit number starting with the number 3, located on your child's report card).
Please ensure your current address is up to date with your catchment school.
When will I find out if my child has an unassigned seat?
As soon as student registration settles in September, we can determine unassigned seats and make them available.
If seats are available, you will be contacted regarding your approval for a seat by the end of September or earlier.
Please remember that this bus seat is provided with the understanding that the seat may be needed in the future for new families to the community who are eligible for student transportation.
An unassigned seat may be approved if the following conditions are met:
- Newly registered bus eligible students are routed first.
- Students will be assigned to the closest stop in the eligible bus zone on an existing bus route with an existing stop location.
- No bus stops will be created within the distance criteria.
- The bus schedule and routing will not be altered to accommodate unassigned seat requests.
- The requested bus services the school the student attends.
- The seat is provided with the understanding that the seat may be needed for new families to the community in the future who are eligible for transportation.
- The seat is only provided for the current school year, and seats must be requested annually.
