Pre-primary Busing
For a Pre-Primary child to be eligible for bus transportation, they must live outside the 1.6 km or less designated school walking distance.
Busing FAQ
Will there be seat belts available for my child?
School buses are among the safest vehicles on the road due to their unique design features. The Motor Vehicle Act requires all children under 40 pounds to use a seatbelt on a school bus, if they are available.
What are the protocols around boarding/unboarding the bus for my child?
A parent/guardian or adult designate must accompany Pre-Primary children to/from the bus stop and remain with the child until they are safely boarded/unboarded. If a parent/guardian or adult designate is not at the stop to meet the child at the end of the day, they will be contacted, and the child will be returned to the school after the run for pick-up.
A parent/guardian or adult designate must buckle/unbuckle their child every day when required (if child is less than 40 pounds and 57" height) and only if a seat belt is available. Bus drivers cannot leave their seats. If a parent/guardian or adult designate boards the school bus, they must also wear a mask.
My child is nervous about riding the bus. Do you have an opportunity for children to practice getting on before school starts?
Yes, Pre-Primary children who are eligible to access our student transportation are welcome to join us for a Bus Orientation Session. Information on location, time and date will be communicated to you by the Pre-Primary team.
Will there be older students on my child’s bus?
Yes, Pre-Primary children are now eligible to access the regular CCRCE bus routes with our other school-aged children.
Will there be Monitors on my child’s bus?
Four-year-olds in Nova Scotia have been bused regularly and safely for more than a decade without additional supervision.
My child will only be attending Pre-Primary for three days a week. Are they still able to access busing if they are eligible?
Yes, they are. As long as your Pre-Primary child lives outside the designated walking distance, they will have access to our busing on the days they are in attendance.
I have more questions about the Pre-Primary busing. Who do I call?
