We recognize that there are times when our students might need additional support to be able to succeed in academics or to help their well-being.
At CCRCE, we are committed to providing inclusive education through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to support learners. MTSS is an integrated school-wide approach which provides a structure for effective instruction, assessment, and support for all learners with a focus on well-being and achievement.
By considering supports through tiers, staff are able to be responsive and flexible to students' needs.
Universal Practices & Supports (Tier 1)
Tier 1 practices and supports incorporate supports and interventions for all students in a common learning environment. With a focus on cultural responsiveness and with the principles of universal design for learning in mind, staff members collaboratively provide engaging and relevant learning opportunities for all students.
For example, a Speech Language Pathologist would help teachers to work with all students on language, phoneme/grapheme relationships, phonological awareness, expressive/ receptive language, literacy, and social communication. By coaching and co-teaching, they are able to conduct whole class screening for hearing, speech and language. If additional supports are required, student needs are identified early.
Focused Supports (Tier 2)
Tier 2 practices and supports are for students who have been identified as benefiting from more focused support. The approach could include teachers applying a more focused approach of skills with students, specialists working with small groups, and consulting with and teaching parents to support a more focused approach for student support at home.
Intensive Supports (Tier 3)
Tier 3 approach is used as identified by the Teaching Support Team or Student Planning Team Meeting when a student needs a more intensive (often one-on-one) approach to topics.
