The Property Services Team conducts ongoing tests and reports to ensure our buildings and schools remain safe and ready for students and staff.
Water Testing
Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education has a drinking water quality monitoring and testing program in place that includes regular quarterly testing for coliforms and annual chemical analysis.
In 2019, Health Canada published new health-based guidelines for lead and copper in drinking water. A new water testing protocol for copper and lead was outlined by the Department of Environment for all Nova Scotia schools.
All CCRCE schools and regional sites receive ongoing testing of water sources. Schools and buildings that require mediation steps on potable water locations have access to alternative sources of water.

Ventilation Testing
As part of a layered COVID-19 response and at the guidance of Public Health, a thorough review of all ventilation systems was performed to ensure all CCRCE schools have well-maintained ventilation systems operating as designed before the start of school in September 2020. Ventilation checks can include filter maintenance, lubrication, electrical and controls, and operable windows. Much of this work was regular preventative maintenance.
Our regular scheduled preventative checks will continue through the year. Please click the link below to view the ventilation reporting summary.
