CCRSB celebrates Asian Heritage Month
The Chignecto-Central Regional School Board (CCRSB) continued to embrace and promote multiculturalism by celebrating Asian Heritage Month throughout May.
CCRSB students, teachers and staff shared information, art and music in celebration of Asian Heritage Month. Truro Elementary, New Glasgow Academy, Walter Duggan Consolidated, Bible Hill Central and West Pictou Consolidated in particular took part in a number of initiatives to make this year’s Asian Heritage Month one to remember.
"The students were really excited to celebrate Asian Heritage Month. They helped create displays, provided information to other students, teachers and staff, and worked hard to learn more about Asian heritage," said Gary Adams, CCRSB Superintendent and CEO.
Students from Walter Duggan Consolidated welcomed visitors from the Pictou County Multicultural Association for lessons in India Folk Dance, while New Glasgow Academy students learned songs and spoken phrases from India.
May is Asian Heritage Month across Canada, a time to reflect on the contributions that Canadians of Asian heritage continue to make to the growth, prosperity and history of Canada.
Asian Heritage Month has been celebrated across Canada since the 1990s, and this year the theme is ‘Celebrating the Contributions of Asian Canadians: Canada 150.’
