Weather Decision Update

Dear families,

We want to share with you the details about the decision this morning.

• At 5 AM, our Operational Services team reviewed the forecasted weather for CCRCE, which showed snow flurries transitioning to rain this morning.
• During the hour, the team checked highway cameras, weather radar, and consulted with staff in each of our four families of schools and the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation for input around the region.
• Based on the radar, forecast, and local feedback, the information indicated that CCRCE would be able to transport students to school before the majority of snow arrived, with the snow converting to rain throughout the morning.

The decision is made to the best of our ability before 6:30 AM. We base our decisions on the forecast, but as you know, Nova Scotian weather can change without warning.

As CCRCE is a large geographical area, we recognize that areas of the region can experience weather differently, even within a family of schools. Parents and guardians are able to make the final decision based on their localized weather or road conditions if they are able to send their child to school in a safe manner.

We will continue to monitor conditions throughout the day and advise of any changes, if necessary. At this time, we feel confident the weather will be transitioned to rain for the afternoon dismissal.

CCRCE takes great care when making the decision to cancel school in the event of severe or inclement weather. If you wish to comment on today’s decision, click here.
