Our region is expected to receive significant rainfall and hurricane-force winds over the weekend due to the incoming storm. Although we hope it passes without much property damage/power outages, we want families to be aware of how we will communicate if the storm impacts the opening of school on Monday.
CCRCE is watching the path of the storm closely, and we have plans in place to inspect all of our buildings following the storm and make decisions about Monday opening, if necessary.
Plan of Action
With the storm expected to hit sometime on Friday evening through Saturday, our Operations staff has been preparing with school staff to ensure all of our buildings are secure.
All CCRCE schools will be closed as of 6:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2022, and will remain closed throughout the weekend. As a result, all extra-curricular and/or community activities will be cancelled and/or rescheduled.
Once the storm passes and it is safe, staff will check schools to determine if there are any impacts on our ability to open on Monday.
If there are going to be any cancellations or delays, we will share this information in a number of different ways. We recognize any decisions to close a school or schools has an impact on families so we will share any information as soon as a decision has been made.
How will we let you know?
If there are any impacts (delays or cancellations) to a school or family of schools, you can expect to find the information in the following ways:
- Check our website at www.ccrce.ca
- An alert will pop up when you first visit the website if there is a cancellation.
- Follow us on our social media channels
- Listen to your local radio stations
- We will send a text message to the Inclement Weather Text List who have signed up and opted in to receive the messages.
- To receive text notifications, you must sign up using our two-step process.
- Sign up on the CCRCE website for the Inclement Weather Notifications. This text list is open to families and community members and is separate from the texts you would receive from your school.
- Opt-in with our service provider (School Messenger) by texting Y to the shortcode 978338. You should receive a confirmation text from School Messenger.
